Rationale of the Program
Due to recent economic developments, the importance of purchasing, logistics and supply chain management has increased enormously. The sourcing and logistics departments of leading companies are increasingly viewed as competent partners by specialist departments – not only when it comes to cost-savings but also quality improvement. Latest studies show that competitive advantage is often contingent upon the provision of innovative products and services. Efficient purchasing is a driver of innovation and logistics are in fact frequently considered a “strategic weapon” in the competitive environment.
At the same time, increasing customer demand and expectations require an integrated approach, in which all activities along the supply chain can be planned, managed, implemented and controlled throughout the entire product life cycle. Within business companies supply chain management assumes this function and aims in the long-term to improve the performance of the individual companies along the supply chain, and especially the supply chain as a whole.
Mount Kenya University recognizes the role of procurement and materials management as very critical for the success of an enterprise. A lot of money is spent on procurement of supplies, materials and assets, and therefore it is very important that procurement is handled professionally and effectively. And for these reason came up with a Master’s program in Procurement to train Professionals in this field
