MKU Rwanda holds pedagogical skills training workshop

Mount Kenya University Rwanda held its 1st Pedagogical Skills Training Workshop at their new state-of-the- art premises at Kagarama area, Kicukiro District, Rwanda. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edwin Odhuno, Ph.D. officially opened the workshop which had over 80 academic staff in attendance.

at holistic training of the academic staff to enhance quality service delivery which was the main objective. The Lead Trainer was Prof. Hema Krishnan, Professor of Strategy

and Global Business, Xavier University, USA. Other trainers were Dr. Kimamo Githui, Mount Kenya University, Thika Campus and Prof. John Huria Nderitu, University of Nairobi.

The following topics were covered:

  • The Role of Higher Education
  • Curriculum Design and Instructional Application
  • The Role of Information Technology in Higher Education
  • Evaluation of Assessment Methods
  • Research Mentoring and Support

The workshop programme included two break-out sessions every day that enabled members to discuss in details better ways of service delivery. The moderators guided the participants throughout the session.

Dr. Innocent Mugisha, Executive Director, Higher Education Council closed the workshop and emphasized on teaching, learning and assessment. He encouraged the participants to be considerate on the learning needs of the students through assessment because it determines the academic growth of the students.
